Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

Just when the CSIs are about to begin processing the scene, Peter Rowe comes home to find his wife, Janelle dead and his daughter Nora seriously injured and reacts aggressively to news until he is handcuffed by the officers and Det. Brass. Det. Brass questions Peter who claims he was out target shooting with his gun. Meanwhile, Nick and Det. Cavaliere check out another case involving two high school football stars who were recklessly drinking and driving until they crashed into a tree.

Riley and Greg search the scene at the house where they find the bullet and the back door’s lock forced open. It turns out, the neighbor herd arguing and peeked through her window to see through the Rowe’s kitchen then heard a gun shot. Det. Brass reveals Peter’s secret as he changed his name to Mark Ekhaml after his ex wife, Amy hired a P.I. named Trevor Levin to determine if he was cheating and he was. Amy then had an affair with Trevor who ended up missing. After sharing this, Peter shows Det. Brass how he’s been receiving death threats on his phone. Dr. Robbins informs Riley that Janelle’s cause of death was due to the gun shot to the head and she also had bruising on her cheek just before she was killed. In Det. Brass’s office, Kelsey Levin comes in to answer a few questions he has regarding the death threats made to Peter seeing as how it was her father who went missing and the threats being made were created from her I.P. address.

Meanwhile, Dr. Robbins has the two athletes, Jake Bowman and Max Poole in autopsy where he reveals to Nick that Max encountered an odd broken arm that doesn’t match to the car crash. In the trace lab, Nick, Hodges and Catherine realize the splinters found in the bodies don’t match up to either victim’s arms. Suddenly, Nicks reveals that the oak splinters were from the tree at the crash whereas the white ash splinters were from a baseball bat meaning they were playing “mailbox baseball” which explains Max’s awkward broken arm. Ruining Nick and Hodges memories of adolescent fun, Catherine reminds them that a mailbox full of air could not have been the cause for breaking his arm. Nick goes back to the scene and notices a red mailbox with the same gravel Nick collected from the car and notices the mailbox can be easily removed. Nick and Det. Cavaliere approach the house with the red removable mailbox out front belonging to a nervous Hal Jackmin. Nick notices fresh concrete laid in the back and digs it up to find a similar red mailbox, but filled with concrete. Finally, Jackmin confesses to switching the mailboxes but only to teach them a lesson not to smash his mailbox a fifth time. That being said, Det. Cavaliere handcuffs Jackmin.

Grissom receives a letter regarding the miniature killer, Natalie Davis. Without a doubt he reports to court not for her trial, but rather to see that she is now on medication and able to serve the sentence she was lawfully given. Finally, Grissom faces Natalie to see her for who she really is. She apologetically explains how remorseful she is and is trying to better herself. A.D.A. Valerie Nichols asks Grissom to speak on trial regarding observing Natalie then compared to the present. He does and in doing so explains that he was not there for revenge but hope that people can change but not sure if they can even in Natalie’s case.

Meanwhile, Riley had Archie locate the email server that sent the death threats to Peter was reported from a halfway house downtown, whereas the email account was only created from Kelsey’s computer. The threats were made by Nathan Levin, Kelsey’s brother. Greg brings up an old file on Trevor Levin and reveals that the bullet used in a previous case from Levin’s gun matches the bullet used on Janelle. Thinking that Peter could have used Levin’s old weapon, the CSIs track down Peter at the hospital where he was visiting Nora until the find out that he left. Surveillance footage shows that a woman approached him with her hands in her pockets as if she has a gun—it was Kelsey. The CSIs track down her car and find her aiming her dad’s gun at Peter as he digs the hole we killed and buried Trevor Levin. Det. Brass tells her he knows Janelle’s death was an accident and Nora is going to be fine, but if she shoots Peter he can’t help her. Nothing matters now as she shoots and kills Peter and then just as quickly the police open fire on Kelsey killing her almost instantly.

After Natalie’s trial, the jury ordered her to carry out her sentence while still taking medication but with no therapy. Grissom sees her one last time to bid farewell and gain closure on the incident. She offers him an odd gaze as she leaves as if hiding something. When Grissom looks down, he notices a tile that is hollowed out from the bottom. When he picks it up, he finds a miniature Natalie with a noose tied around her neck.
